Manchester United legend Paul Ince has come to Paul Pogba’s defence after Graeme Souness ‘slaughtered’ the Frenchman with his comments live on air.
Midfield talisman Pogba ran the show in the 5-1 win against Leeds United on Saturday as he became only the seventh Premier League player to register four assists in a match.
Bruno Fernandes bagged the opening goal before Luke Ayling equalised, but the Red Devils were not to be stopped as Fernandes, Mason Greenwood and Fred scored four more between them.
But Sky Sports pundit and former Liverpool player Graeme Souness was not impressed with the World Cup winner, failing to praise Pogba once more in their long-standing and mainly one-sided feud.
When asked about Pogba’s performance, Souness merely said: "We expect that [four assists] from a £100million man.
“I was going to get round to the point that they have spent £70m on [Jadon] Sancho.
“Maybe that might be something they look back on and think 'did we need to spend that money?'. Because that boy [Mason Greenwood], is a player, he's a finisher.
“I think he's going to be a top player.”
Souness’ persistent criticism of Pogba has become a running joke on social media, even leading the player himself to once respond with his own jibe, saying he had never heard of Souness.

And now fans and former Man United midfielder Ince are all baffled at the lack of acknowledgment of Pogba's talents.
Speaking to the United Stand, Ince said: “It’s a new season, a new start, it’s a new Manchester United.
“He [Pogba] was outstanding. Just leave it at that.
“We don’t need Graeme Souness to start trying to slaughter Pogba when he’s been outstanding. I don’t get it.
“Pogba only thought about leaving because he didn’t see Man United competing with the top sides. That’s understandable, it’s like Harry Kane at Tottenham.
“Kane wants to leave because he wants to win trophies.”
