Man Utd ‘learn steep Marcel Sabitzer transfer price’ as Glazers hold up move

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag reviews Bournemouth game

Manchester United takeover uncertainty is already disrupting the club’s summer transfer plans, with Marcel Sabitzer talks reportedly on hold. But Bayern Munich’s valuation of the 29-year-old throws further doubt over whether United will sign him permanently.

Erik ten Hag recruited Sabitzer on an emergency short loan in January in response to Christian Eriksen being sidelined for months through injury.

The Austria international has proven to be a valuable player in the second half of the season, helping United lift the Carabao Cup and move within touching distance of a top-four finish.

There was hope that the Red Devils could seal a cut-price deal to sign Sabitzer permanently this summer.

But according to Sky Germany, Bayern will demand around £22million to part ways with him two years before his 2025 contract expiry.

Thomas Tuchel has replaced Julian Nagelsmann as manager since Sabitzer’s winter exit, but whether he fits in his plans is unknown.

Bayern’s asking price is likely steeper than United would like, considering the Bundesliga giants paid less than £14m to sign Sabitzer from RB Leipzig in 2021.

He played 2,036 minutes in 54 games in Bavaria – compared to 1,041 in just 18 at United – so a demand of almost £10m more than his fee two years ago could be viewed as cheeky by figures at Old Trafford.

But regardless of United’s intentions over Sabitzer’s future, the report claims that any move is currently held up due to the uncertainty over the club’s ownership.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani are still waiting to learn who the Glazers’ preferred bidders are at the end of a six-month takeover saga.

It will be frustrating Ten Hag, who is keen to oversee another summer of change in M16 ahead of his second season in charge.

Sky Germany add that a striker and centre-back are his two priorities, with a central midfielder falling just behind on the pecking order.

But the longer United are in the dark about the club’s owners, the more damaging it will likely be to Ten Hag’s plans.
