Man Utd latest as Sheikh Jassim preparing documents and Ratcliffe speaks out

LGBTQ+ activist concerned by potential Qatari takeover of Man Utd

Another day in the Manchester United takeover saga awaits. Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe remain in a battle to buy the club, with the Glazers yet to shed light on the situation. And what ultimately happens remains to be seen, with the process still ongoing seven months after the Americans first confirmed they were open to a potential sale.

The Glazers confirmed back in November they were open to potentially selling United, having been in charge ever since their own takeover in 2005.

Fast-forward to now, however, and they’re yet to address the situation.

To recap, Sheikh Jassim seems to be the frontrunner right now with the Qatari billionaire lodging five offers.

Ratcliffe has made three bids of his own and is willing to let Glazer siblings Joel and Avram stay at the club in reduced roles.

Stay tuned for the latest updates below, with Express Sport on hand to bring you everything you need throughout the day.

Ratcliffe threatened

According to Business journalist David Hellier, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is being threatened with legal action as he looks to buy United.

“The minority holders are slightly aggressive funds, mainly in the US there are some in the UK,” he told Unitedviewtv.

“I was told they’ve made it clear to the Manchester United board, via a letter that was sent, that said ‘if you recommend this offer which prejudices us, gives us no offer at all, we end up with discounted shares while the Glazers get everything. We will sue’.

“I was then being told by the Man United side that they have three independent directors.

“And those directors would never, ever sanction or recommend that bid under these circumstances with this threat.”

Sheikh Jassim preparing documents

According to The Athletic, Sheikh Jassim is preparing transactional documents so a takeover can go through immediately if the Qatari bid is accepted.

And the report also delves into what the mysterious figure is like as a person.

Sheikh Jassim apparently likes to own ‘nice things’, which is part of the reason he’s so eager to purchase United.

Yet he’s also a huge fan of the club and watches every single match they play.

Good morning

Good morning and welcome to Express Sport’s Manchester United takeover LIVE blog.

We thought the saga would be over by now but, typically, the Glazers are taking their time to decide on things.

Sheikh Jassim is growing in confidence that a deal can be struck.

Yet Sir Jim Ratcliffe still can’t be ruled out, with the 70-year-old a savvy businessman hoping to own a Premier League club at the second time of asking – having missed out on Chelsea to Todd Boehly last year.
