LGBTQ+ activist concerned by potential Qatari takeover of Man Utd
Manchester United news is coming thick and fast as the summer transfer window nears. Sheikh Jassim, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Frenkie de Jong all feature in our round-up. Express Sport brings you some of the biggest stories surrounding the club right now.
Sheikh Jassim ‘breakthrough’
Sheikh Jassim had previously believed he was set to miss out on buying United.
But the Daily Mail say optimism is building in Qatari circles that the mysterious figure will manage to succeed with his bid.
It’s claimed there was ‘something of a breakthrough’ following recent talks with the Glazers.
Both Sheikh Jassim and Ratcliffe are preparing their final offers for the club, with a decision due to be made this week.
There’s still no certainty the Glazers will sell up, however, with minority investment another possibility.

Ratcliffe enlists bank
According to The Athletic, Ratcliffe has enlisted a bank to arrange specific financing.
The INEOS chief still seems to be confident as he looks to buy United.
It’s also claimed that his key ally, Sir Save Brailsford, is ‘making enquiries on sporting decisions’.
Ratcliffe is willing to let Joel and Avram Glazer stay at United in reduced roles under his rule.
Yet whether the siblings opt to stay or go remains to be seen.

De Jong transfer view
United spent the bulk of last summer pursuing a deal for Frenkie de Jong.
However, the Netherlands international won’t be chased again this summer.
That’s according to the Manchester Evening News, who say Mason Mount is now Erik ten Hag’s priority transfer target.
Personal terms with the Chelsea star have already been agreed.
But United may have to pay a premium for the England international, amid suggestions he’ll cost in the region of £75million despite having just 12 months left on his contract at Stamford Bridge.

Pellistri on Ten Hag
Speaking to club media, Facundo Pellistri praised Ten Hag for the work he’s done sine his appointment 12 months ago.
“Yes. Erik is a great manager,” said the youngster.
“He’s taught us a lot of things, different ways of playing.
“We prepare [for] every match differently. Of course, we have our same style, but we have to change some things depending on the rival.
“And, of course, you learn a lot of things. And that’s why I told you that, this season, I learned a lot.”
Scholes believes United have character again
Also speaking to club media, Paul Scholes expressed a belief that United now have character and belief again.
“I think for two or three years at least, this team’s been accused of lacking leaders,” he said.
“I think there’s a few leaders in the team.
“When you think of the experience of Casemiro, Martinez is a great character and got personality and his experience. And I think that’s all changed around a little bit.
“They’ve got a belief in them as well. I don’t think, you know, they don’t dominate games as much as they probably like to, but they’ve found a way to win and that’s the most important thing.”
