Man Utd keep or sell as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plots new arrivals for 2021/22

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could be set to undergo a squad revamp in the summer transfer window.

A number of United stars face uncertain futures at Old Trafford, with some struggling for game time or form in Solskjaer’s first-team squad and others trying to impress him out on loan.

The Norwegian is also said to be eyeing up a number of transfer targets ahead of the summer window, meaning several players could be shown the door to make way for new arrivals.

Daily Star Sport have taken a look at United’s potential departures this summer and whether they could be staying put or heading for the exit.

David de Gea

Reports have emerged suggesting De Gea could be moved on by Red Devils chiefs in order to make way for Dean Henderson as the new No.1 goalkeeper at Old Trafford.

Having seen his form plummet in recent seasons, a new challenge elsewhere could be exactly what the Spaniard needs to get back to his best.

Phil Jones

The forgotten centre-back has not made a single appearance for United this season, meaning he is surely certain to be offloaded in the summer in order to revive his career at the age of 29.

He is still under contract at Old Trafford until 2023, nevertheless, so club officials will have to find a buyer if they want to cut ties with him.

Victor Lindelof

Lindelof has struggled for consistency in the 2020/21 campaign, sparking doubts over whether he is the right man to partner Harry Maguire at the heart of United’s defence.

Solskjaer may very well look to strengthen at centre-back this summer, but it would be a surprise to see the Sweden international leave as he still has plenty to offer in the squad.

Diogo Dalot

Since heading out on loan to AC Milan back in October, the right-back has generally failed to impress and only featured twice in their last eight Serie A outings.

With Aaron Wan-Bissaka a key member of Solskjaer’s starting XI at right-back, it is difficult to envisage a future for Dalot at Old Trafford.

  • Brandon Williams

The 20-year-old burst onto the scene at United in the second half of last season and showed plenty of promise, but the signing of Alex Telles has pushed him further down the pecking order at left-back this term.

While the club won’t want to lose him permanently, a loan move would be the perfect way for Williams to develop as a player next season if Telles and Luke Shaw remain ahead of him.

    Jesse Lingard

Lingard has made an impressive start to life on loan at West Ham, scoring twice on his debut against Aston Villa and also firing in the winner against Tottenham last month.

Solskjaer doesn’t seem to be a fan of the midfielder, however, and with David Moyes seemingly keen to bring him to the London Stadium permanently that could be a switch that makes sense for all parties.

    Donny van de Beek

The Dutchman’s debut season at Old Trafford has been a huge disappointment so far, with only two Premier League starts to show for his first seven months in England.

After not being given much of a chance this term, it would make little sense for Van de Beek to be shown the door this summer and he deserves to stay and fight for his place.

    Andreas Pereira

Another United star out on loan, Pereira has only been afforded 548 minutes of action since joining Lazio in October, which is unlikely to have impressed Solskjaer.

A permanent departure appears to be on the cards this summer, and reports suggest the Red Devils are already searching for a buyer.
