Man Utd ‘investigating for moles’ after leaks which ‘could damage team unity’

Manchester United have reportedly launched an investigation as they look to root out a ‘mole’ who may have been leaking team information.

One anonymous X (formerly Twitter) account in particular, which has gained a large number of followers, is being closely monitored by the club, reports the Daily Mail. The account has been posting several accurate injury updates before they were confirmed by the crisis-hit club.

United suspect the account has been run by someone who either works for or is linked with the club. A number of other accounts are also being monitored as part of a wide-ranging probe.

The club are said to fear the potential leaks could undermine team spirit and help upcoming opponents prepare for matches, with United 10th in the table after their worst ever start to a Premier League season.

“Preparation for games these days is so thorough that leaked information about team line-ups and injuries can give the opposition an advantage to exploit,” said a club insider, reported the Mail.

“United fans should be hounding out these accounts that routinely leak this kind of information, and questioning what is their motivation for doing it.”

Manager Erik ten Hag was asked about a potential mole in the camp at a recent press conference amid a troubled start to the season on and off the pitch. The Dutchman said: “I don’t know if it’s a leak but I know opinion, I know my players. Everyone can make suggestions, we are OK with it.”

Ten Hag insisted he was ready to ride out United’s problems amid growing criticism of his tenure and his handling of high-profile players. He said: “It’s my second year. I know it’s not always only going up, you will have your gaps and you get stronger from it as long as you stay together, and that’s what we’re doing.

“The dressing room, staff, all the staff, coaches, medical, everyone is united and at United you fight.”
