Man Utd insiders ‘think squad is bloated’ with as many as 13 players up for sale
Rashford's verdict on Man City treble as Man Utd aim to catch up
Manchester United insiders reportedly believe Erik ten Hag’s squad is ‘too bloated’ and are keen to oversee a ruthless cull of fringe stars. The Red Devils’ transfer business could depend on what funds they receive for the likes of Harry Maguire, Scott McTominay and other outcasts at Old Trafford.
Several reports widely expect there to be a mini overhaul of Ten Hag’s squad this summer. There is reportedly a common belief that too many stars sit on the fringes of the first-team and must be allowed to leave.
The United boss is known to want a striker and a midfielder this summer. A pursuit of Chelsea’s Mason Mount fits the latter profile, while Victor Osimhen and Rasmus Hojlund are allegedly liked as centre-forward potential options.
However, there could be a cull of several players this summer to accommodate the new signings. Many stars could be set to depart Old Trafford.

According to the Daily Mail, insiders believe Ten Hag’s squad has become ‘too bloated’. It has been suggested that as many as 13 players will be allowed to find new clubs ahead of the 2023-24 season.
Maguire and McTominay are two of the biggest names who have been linked with a departure. Club captain Maguire, who made just 16 Premier League appearances last season, is reportedly wanted by Tottenham, Aston Villa and Newcastle.
Ten Hag is aware that despite a Carabao Cup triumph and an FA Cup runners-up medal, his squad needs significant bolstering to challenge for trophies next season. He urged the club to kick on with transfer business as soon as the 2022-23 campaign ended.
“The club knows if you want to play top four, compete for trophies in this tough league then you have to invest otherwise you don’t have a chance because other clubs will do,” Ten Hag said after United had beaten Fulham 2-1.

“We’ve seen it in the winter, all the clubs around us made huge investments, we didn’t, but still we made it, so I’m proud of my team.”
United are strongly linked with a move for midfielder Mount, which could be concluded over the coming weeks. It has been claimed that Old Trafford is the 24-year-old’s preferred option, as opposed to leaving Chelsea for Liverpool or Arsenal.
Reports suggest that Chelsea’s £70million valuation remains a stumbling block. United are keen to drive that price down before they conclude a transfer.
