Man Utd ‘increasingly confident’ of signing Mason Mount as £10m discount eyed

Erik ten Hag wants Manchester United to use FA Cup final defeat as motivation

Manchester United have already laid plenty of groundwork with more than a week to go until the Premier League transfer window officially opens. Erik ten Hag and co may get their rewards, too, as confidence is reportedly increasing that the Red Devils can nab Mason Mount at a discounted price.

Mount has just one year remaining on his Chelsea contract, and after a disappointing individual season, it looks as though the Blues are willing to cash in while they can rather than run the risk of losing him for free next summer.

United, Arsenal and Liverpool have all been credited with interest in the 24-year-old, but the Red Devils seem to have stolen a march. Mount is already believed to have agreed personal terms on a move to Old Trafford.

And according to the Evening Standard, senior Red Devils figures are ‘increasingly confident’ of striking a full agreement with Chelsea over the coming weeks.

Although Chelsea’s £70million asking price is extortionate for a player 12 months away from being a free agent, United supposedly have their sights set on a discount of at least £10m.

Chelsea’s bloated senior squad has piled the pressure on co-owner Todd Boehly to offload players. The Red Devils reportedly believe that they can capitalise by landing Mount for between £50m and £60m.

Martin Brundle asks Mason Mount burning Man Utd question on Spanish GP grid walk[REACTION]

The England international may have already played his final game for the Blues, having risen through their academy and scored 33 goals in 195 appearances. Only three of those goals came in the Premier League last season as Chelsea stumbled to a dreadful bottom-half finish.

Mount’s future was even a hot topic of discussion at the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday as F1 pundit Martin Brundle managed to corner the Chelsea star during his customary pre-race grid walk.

After fellow Blues players Reece James and Ben Chilwell publicly called for Mount to stay in west London, the player himself said live on Sky Sports: “I’m here to just enjoy this race today. It’s an amazing day, can’t wait to watch it.”

Chelsea have already pinpointed numerous midfield targets who could offset Mount’s prospective exit. Although Manuel Ugarte now seems bound for Paris Saint-Germain, Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia are both believed to be firmly in the crosshairs.
