Man Utd ‘in talks over new contract’ despite Rangnick scrutiny behind the scenes
Man Utd fans protest outside Old Trafford
Manchester United are reportedly in talks over a new deal for Facundo Pellistri. And that’s despite Ralf Rangnick once scrutinising the club’s decision to sign the Uruguay international. The 21-year-old still has a bright future at Old Trafford, despite making just 10 appearances for the club in three years.
Manchester United are, according to the Manchester Evening News, hoping to tie Pellistri down to a new contract.
Erik ten Hag is described as a ‘big fan’ of the 21-year-old, despite the forward struggling for game time during his spell at Old Trafford.
And United are keen to keep Pelistri, having turned down approaches from Spanish and Italian clubs back in January.
However, even if he does stay and extend his contract, the youngster is likely to leave on loan next season.
United clearly feel Pellistri can be a key player in the future, which is why they’re taking action behind the scenes.
Yet one person who wasn’t so sold on the player was Rangnick.

The German was briefly manager of United in the 2021/2022 season, having been drafted in as a temporary replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
And Rangnick, reports previously said, scrutinised the club’s transfer policy in private.
The 65-year-old, who is now manager of the Austria national team, was unconvinced by the club’s decision to sign Pellistri.
And he also questioned deals for Amad and Donny van de Beek, too.
Amad joined from Atalanta in the January transfer window of 2021, with the club agreeing a deal months earlier.

He scored on his debut for United in a 1-1 Europa League draw against AC Milan at Old Trafford.
Amad is highly-rated at United, with the Ivory Coast international impressing during a loan spell at Sunderland last season.
He’s another player who may leave on loan, with the Red Devils well-stocked for wingers as things stand.
United expected big things when they signed Van de Beek from Ajax in 2020, having seen the midfielder shine during his time in Amsterdam.
However, he’s been a huge disappointment with the Netherlands international often struggling to make his mark.
United are thought to be open to offers for Van de Beek this summer.
Ajax have been linked, while AC Milan have emerged as potential suitors for the player as well.
Regarding Pellistri, meanwhile, the United star reflected on last season in a recent interview with club media.
“Well, it was a good season,” said the winger. “And, luckily, we could qualify for the Champions League.
“That was the main focus we had in pre-season. Also, we could win the Carabao Cup.
“Of course, it was a long season, full of matches and I gained a lot of experience here.
“So I’m happy to be here in this club and to have my full first season being a Manchester United player.”
He added: Erik is a great manager. He’s taught us a lot of things, different ways of playing.
“We prepare [for] every match differently. Of course, we have our same style, but we have to change some things depending on the rival.
“And, of course, you learn a lot of things. And that’s why I told you that, this season, I learned a lot.”
