Man Utd ‘in pole position’ to sign Erling Haaland on cut-price deal next summer
Manchester United are said to be in 'pole position' to secure the signing of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund this summer with Manchester City and Real Madrid otherwise occupied.
With City missing out on Harry Kane and Real Madrid facing the same situation with Kylian Mbappe during the recently closed summer window – United have an advantage.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer handed the Norway international his senior debut at Molde back in 2017, a game in which he scored as the Eliteserien side ran out 3-2 winners.
With Solskjaer open about his desire to work with Haaland again in the future, the club might already be considering a long-term replacement for 36-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo.
ESPN report that United in pole position because their rivals are interested in alternative options up front, while Chelsea have already got their man in Romelu Lukaku.
Tottenham refused to negotiate with City despite receiving an offer in the region of £120m, but that interest looks set to be reignited next summer with Kane turning 29 next July.
Real Madrid, who were desperate to sign Mbappe from PSG this summer, can agree a deal with the 22-year-old as early as January with his contract up next summer.
Despite his obvious talent, Haaland won't break the bank next season for his new club because agent Mino Raiola had a release clause of under £70m placed into his Dortmund contract.

Haaland told ESPN of Solskjaer in 2020: "Yeah, when I came to Molde as a 16-year-old boy, he taught me a lot of things from day one, as you said, he was my coach then and he taught me a lot of things.
“He was a striker, I’m a striker and he has won the Champions League and that’s also a dream for me.
"He’s been teaching me a lot of finishing skills and small movements in the box and these kind of things.”
With Solskjaer saying later that year: “The boy has had a great start to his career.
“It was really good to work with him, to see the potential in him and some part of me feels proud of having a little bit of input into such a rise.
”I’m sure Erling will score loads of goals in the Champions League.”
