Man Utd in pole position as Tottenham steer clear of Christian Eriksen reunion

Manchester United are in pole position to land Christian Eriksen – after Tottenham backed away from re-signing the former Spurs forward.

Eriksen has yet to decide his future after making a successful comeback with Brentford last season and is available on a free transfer this summer. But it's understood Spurs have not been involved in any serious discussions to sign the Denmark star, who suffered a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020.

And that has paved the way for United to make a run at the 30-year-old, who had a goal and four assists in 11 appearances for the Bees last season.

Eriksen has been offered the chance to stay at Brentford and has promised to make Bees boss Thomas Frank the first to know his next move. Spurs boss Antonio Conte worked with Eriksen at Inter Milan, where the pair won the 2021 Serie A title together.

And before Eriksen returned to competitive football, Conte said "the door is always open" to him training with Tottenham. But new United boss Erik ten Hag is interested in taking the forward to Old Trafford as part of an ambitious rebuilding campaign.

And while there is also interest from Everton, United are now seen as the favourites to land him should he choose to quit Brentford. They were previously linked with him during his Spurs days.

Eriksen made over 300 appearances for the north London club between 2013 and 2020. During that time he scored 69 goals and made 90 assists.
