Manchester United fans all over the world have been gleefully celebrating Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford – and Sir Alex Ferguson is no different. The legendary Old Trafford boss masterminded Ronaldo’s first move to United back in 2003.

The pair would form a special bond over the years, despite Ronaldo leaving for Real Madrid in 2009.

They reportedly maintained regular contact in the years Ronaldo spent away from United with the Portuguese superstar crediting Sir Alex for his achievements.

There was some uproar among United fans this past summer though when reports emerged that Ronaldo was closing in on a shock move to arch-rivals Manchester City.

A number of Red Devils supporters shared clips of them burning their Ronaldo shirts from yesteryear.

But a stunning chain of events unfolded in the closing stages of the transfer window as United soon swooped in to bring Ronaldo back to the club.

After his returned was confirmed, Ronaldo took to social media with a special message to Sir Alex.

He wrote: “This is absolutely 100% the stuff that dreams are made of!

“My first domestic League, my first Cup, my first call to the Portuguese National team, my first Champions League, my first Golden Boot and my first Ballon d’Or, they were all born from this special connection between me and the Red Devils.

“History has been written in the past and history will be written once again! You have my word! … PS – Sir Alex, this one is for you …”

United fans have been gloating about Ronaldo’s return in recent weeks, particularly with his sensational start to the season.

And Sir Alex is no different to those same fans as he’s been having a bit of fun with some City fans in his local post office.

“At the post office, behind that grille, the girls are City fans and I hammer them,” he told the UTD Podcast.

“When I went in the girl Sue says to me: ‘Ah, we’ve got Ronaldo, you must be sick as a pig’ and I said: ‘Don’t hatch your eggs now.’

“When I went back in she was hiding, she wouldn’t come out. I said, ‘Get her out, get her out!’ That was really good fun.”

United are back in action on Saturday afternoon as they host Rafael Benitez’s Everton.

Both clubs sit on 13 points after United suffered their first defeat of the season last week against Aston Villa.
