Dimitar Berbatov has given his thoughts on the current ‘toxic’ dressing room atmosphere at Manchester United – by telling club captain Harry Maguire and summer signing Cristiano Ronaldo to ‘f*****g sort it out’.

Berbatov played alongside Ronaldo for one season in his debut year at Old Trafford as the Red Devils completed a league and cup double in the 2008-09 campaign, whilst also being close to continental glory as they were agonisingly beaten in the Champions League final by Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona.

The duo’s excellence ensured United gained at least one trophy for the 17th season from a possible 19 after they finished four points ahead of rivals Liverpool in the title race and completed a penalty shoot-out win over Tottenham in the League Cup final.

Incredibly, United have won just two Premier League titles since, marking the end of a perceived ‘Golden Era’ under Sir Alex Ferguson.

And dressing room problems reportedly seem to be a huge reason for United’s downfall.

With rumoured power divides amongst the playing squad, many have berated the club’s stars for not being able to resolve their personal issues.

And Berbatov has joined the disgruntled camp, telling Ronaldo and skipper Maguire to ‘f*****g sort it out’ as their problems continue.

“There is always rumour and gossip going around at any club and who knows if there is anything in the story of a clash between Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo over the captaincy,” Berbatov told Betfair.

“Harry says that’s not the case. I hope he’s right. But if there is something to it then I hope they can speak face-to-face and sort it out.

“What is for sure is that this is not the sort of thing United need right now. United are fighting for a top four spot which they need to achieve.

“Nobody needs to be talking about this stuff right in the middle of the season.

“Obviously Ronaldo is an icon in football, he’s done it all and when you have a player like this in the side you need to use him, ask for advice and listen to what he says. He leads by example during training and the way he plays.

“There is a point for Ronaldo being captain because he has experienced everything in the game. On the other hand, Maguire is captain and, ok he may have had the odd bad game, but I don’t think he would like to run from that responsibility.

“If there is anything in it, they have to come together, sit down, speak to each other and the manager and just f**king sort it out!”

United currently sit fourth in the Premier League after a 2-0 win over Brighton in midweek.

Goals from Ronaldo and fellow countryman Bruno Fernandes gave the club a first win in four games against the Seagulls.

And they will look to strengthen their position with a derby day win against bitter rivals Leeds on Sunday.
