Manchester United are ‘highly interested’ in signing Brighton star Moises Caicedo, according to reports. Liverpool also hold the Ecuador international near the top of their wishlist.
Caicedo was linked with a move to United before he joined Brighton in February 2021. After a brief loan spell in Belgium at Beerschot, the 21-year-old is establishing himself as one of the young stars of the Premier League.
He has started all 14 of the Seagulls’ league matches so far this term, scoring one goal. And despite making just 25 appearances in English football in total, he is attracting interest from two of the country’s biggest clubs.
Transfer reporter Florian Plettenberg says United are set to enter the race to sign Caicedo, two years after initially missing out on him. Liverpool are among the list of suitors, with Jude Bellingham also a target as Jurgen Klopp plots to reinvent his midfield.
But Brighton are still keen for Caicedo to stay. Plettenberg tweeted: “News #Caicedo: #MUFC is planning to enter the race! Bosses highly interested.
“Also on the list of #LFC – next to Bellingham – & spotted by many other top clubs. Team-mates say he is an ‘exceptional player & character’. Brighton hopes that he will stay beyond 2023.”
Caicedo has taken his club form onto the international stage with Ecuador at the World Cup. He hasn’t missed a minute so far in the matches against Qatar and the Netherlands.
Ecuador will qualify for the knockout stage if they avoid defeat against Senegal on Tuesday. Caicedo is at risk of being suspended if Ecuador do make it through having picked up a yellow card in the win over the host nation.

Interest in Caicedo dates back to Graham Potter’s time in charge at the Amex. Speaking in August, Potter admitted he wasn’t surprised to learn of top clubs keeping an eye on the player.
And he joked a fee of £42m would only be enough to buy his boots. Potter said: “In football you never know, but we are quite calm and confident. You’d probably get his boots for that from the chairman – maybe! £100m? They can try.
“It doesn’t surprise me that people are looking at him because he is playing at a fantastic level. As soon as you do research on him you realise he is a top kid, great person, young, playing in the Premier League, has all the attributes to play at the very, very highest level.”
