Manchester United hero Teddy Sheringham ‘can’t believe what’s going on’ at the club amid a disappointing season. Paul Pogba’s United status is just one uncertain aspect heading into the summer, and Sheringham doesn’t blame the midfielder for not committing his future to Old Trafford.
Pogba’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign, and he looks set to leave as a free agent with Jesse Lingard and Edinson Cavani in June.
The 28-year-old re-joined United for a then-world-record £89million fee in 2016 under Jose Mourinho.
But his six-year stint in England has been plagued by constant speculation surrounding his future amid interest from Europe’s biggest clubs.
And his club beyond the summer is as unclear as United’s managerial situation, with current interim manager Ralf Rangnick expected to begin a two-year consultancy role in July.

Mauricio Pochettino, Erik ten Hag and Luis Enrique are the frontrunners to become the Red Devils’ next permanent manager.
But the delay in a decision on United’s boss next season might have contributed to Pogba’s unwillingness to sign a new deal.
And Sheringham doesn’t blame the Frenchman for showing hesitance to commit his future to the club whilst there is so much uncertainty and supposed lack of planning at Old Trafford.
He told Genting Casino: “I think it’s the uncertainty. I know the talk is always about Pogba when we talk about Manchester United, but again, his contract ends at the end of the season.
“Why would he sign another contract when he doesn’t even know who the manager’s going to be next year? The absurdity in it, I just can’t believe what’s going on up there.
“Harry Kane said recently ‘United will regret not appointing Conte when he came on the market’. What do you think about that?
“Because he’s right; it is just delaying things, isn’t it? You’re not moving forward by having an interim in there; you’re just keeping the wheels turning.
“Unless the United board have got something up their sleeve that is defined, with a manager coming in with the whole summer to go and do what he’s got to do, then I’ll understand. I’ll hold my hands up and say, ‘Do you know what? It’s a great plan, perfect’.
“But at the moment, from the outside looking in, you just think, “What is going on? What do the next six months hold for Manchester United? Where will they go?”
