Manchester United are reportedly close to agreeing to loan Facundo Pellistri out again next season. Pellistri joined Deportivo Alaves on loan in January and the teenager looks set to stay with the La Liga side until the summer of 2022.

United signed Pellistri from Uruguayan side Penarol last summer for a fee of £7.65million.

The 19-year-old did not make an appearance for the Red Devils’ first team before leaving for Alaves at the end of January.

Pellistri has played 10 La Liga matches for Alaves, six of which were as a substitute, and is yet to score or assist.

However, the Spanish side are seemingly keen on keeping the player beyond this season.

Italian outlet CalcioMercato say United and Alaves have ‘almost defined the agreement’ for Pellistri to remain on loan in Spain next term.

However, Alaves must ensure they avoid relegation before a deal can be signed off.

Alaves are 15th in the table with just two matches of the campaign remaining.

They are four points clear of third-bottom Valladolid and finish the season with matches at home to Granada and away to Sevilla.

If Alaves are relegated, Pellistri will return to England ‘to evaluate new options’, with it appearing clear United think he needs more loan time before becoming a regular in their first-team squad.

Upon joining United last summer, Pellistri explained how it felt to pull on the Red Devils jersey.

“To join a club with the history of Manchester United is a dream come true,” he said.

“I have learnt a lot at Penarol and I would like to thank them for everything they have done for me.

“To have the confidence of the manager is an amazing feeling and I know that working with him will be perfect for my development.

“I am coming into a squad full of great players who I will learn from every day.

“Everyone knows that Manchester United is a club that gives young players an opportunity and I am ready to work hard every day to earn those chances and prove myself in England.”

Meanwhile, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer outlined the potential of the winger.

“Facundo has the perfect platform at Manchester United to develop and he has all of the technical qualities and the right mentality required to become a top player here,” Solskjaer said.

“We are all looking forward to working with him to fulfil his potential over the coming years.”
