Man Utd have five players letting down Erik ten Hag more than their team-mates
Manchester United vs Manchester City in pictures
Manchester United’s struggles continued over the weekend when they were beaten 3-0 by rivals Manchester City in a display that piled further pressure on the shoulders of Erik ten Hag. However, the Dutchman is not being helped by his core group of top players who should be raising standards at Old Trafford. The likes of Scott McTominay, Harry Maguire and Diogo Dalot are not expected to be pillars in the Red Devils’ side, whereas the following five players are usually the first names on Ten Hag’s team sheet and continue to let down their manager…
Marcus Rashford
Despite Ten Hag insisting that he can help Marcus Rashford bounce back to form, his efforts are falling short. The England international looks like a shadow of his former self and drained of the confidence that made him an unstoppable force last season. Rashford is one of the most experienced players in the dressing room but has continued to perform like a young player that has been thrown in at the deep end at the Theatre of Dreams.
Antony
Once again, Antony showcased why he is being labelled a flop against City. The Brazilian international entered the fray in the 86th minute and looked more intent on taking out his frustrations on an opponent than getting his side back into the match. Ten Hag specifically requested that United sign Antony upon his appointment, but the player is showing no signs of repaying the faith of his manager.

Bruno Fernandes
Whilst under immense scrutiny, United need a captain who can rally his troops and spark the squad into life by leading by example. Bruno Fernandes currently does not look like the player for the job, as pointed out by Roy Keane over the weekend. Although an excellent playmaker, when times are tough, the Portuguese international fades into the background and will only emerge to point the blame at the officials. Ten Hag must mould Fernandes into the leader that he requires or risks having an unruly skipper that has a negative influence on his team.
Casemiro
Having been ruled out of the Manchester derby through injury, Casemiro will need to raise his game upon returning to action. The ex-Real Madrid star has struggled so far this season and, as a result, prompted conversations about whether age has finally caught up with the Brazilian. Casemiro has shown previously that he is one of the best holding midfielders in the Premier League but so far this season, he is yet to show it.

Mason Mount
Mason Mount will be the first to admit that he has endured a tricky start to life at United. However, the England international is an experienced star who has competed at the very highest level, and ‘bedding in’ issues no longer excuse his performances. The former Chelsea playmaker must quickly prove why the Red Devils were desperate to acquire his services over the summer or risks falling further down the pecking order under Ten Hag.
