There is an aura of disappointment around Old Trafford at the moment. However, the news that Manchester United have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of a long-term target should give fans something to be cheerful about.
After Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked earlier this season, the Red Devils decided to bide their time and bring in a short-term replacement in the shape of Ralf Rangnick.
The former RB Leipzig boss was expected to bring attacking, high-pressing football to the Theatre of Dreams but the German appears to still be getting to grips with the role.
His side were beaten 1-0 by Wolves on Monday night in a display that highlighted how significantly far away they are from being able to compete for the Premier League trophy.
However, the appointment of a top manager in the summer could solve a few of the club’s issues.

Mauricio Pochettino was linked with the United vacancy when Solskjaer departed, but the Argentine remained at Paris Saint-Germain.
However, the former Tottenham Hotspur won’t be at Le Parc des Princes for too much longer, according to reports in France.
RMS Sport journalist Daniel Riolo has revealed that Zinedine Zidane will become PSG manager by June ‘at the latest’.
It has been reported that Pochettino has tarnished his relationship with PSG sporting director Leonardo by pushing for his return to the Premier League whilst the spot in the Old Trafford dugout was vacant, though he does want the manager to see out the remainder of the season.

Therefore, if Zidane is set to become PSG boss then it will leave Pochettino without a job and thus they can secure their previous target.
The 49-year-old has spent six years in the Premier League managing Spurs and Southampton and was expected to be a roaring success in the Ligue 1 with the likes of Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar at his disposal.
However, the aforementioned trio have failed to set the world alight as they were expected to, with the finger being pointed at Pochettino for how anti-climatic the strike force have been.
But back in the Premier League, the former Argentina international could flourish when tasked with taking United back to their glory days.
United hero Gary Neville has previously given the appointment his seal of approval, stressing that the former Espanyol boss has all the right characteristics to be a success at his beloved club.
“I’d like Pochettino to be the next manager because he’s got experience of the league, I think he would play the right type of football,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“It feels like the moment for him to step up. He’s managing big stars, characters and personalities.
“I’ve always liked him and the way in which he has operated. I think he fits the club, he works with young players as well. He gets the best out of players. He’s a good coach. But also I think he works people the right way.”
It remains to be seen whether United do go after their former target if Zidane does take the reins at PSG, or if the time they have gifted themselves to make the managerial decision has led them to have a change of heart.
