- United looking for a new goalie with David De Gea out of contract next week
Manchester United have been given a boost in their pursuit of Andre Onana, with Inter Milan already looking at replacements for the goalkeeper.
United looked to have lost confidence in current number one David De Gea signing a new deal with the club, and his contract at Old Trafford set to expire next week.
It has meant the club have turned their attention to a new man between the sticks and are said to have made Inter’s Cameroonian stopper a top target, with Onana already being sounded out for a move.
The Italians are already preparing for the 27-year-old’s departure and have identified two possible replacements for Onana, according to Gazetta dello Sport.
Simone Inzaghi’s men have set their sights on Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili and Yann Sommer of Bayern Munich, which suggests Onana could be put for sale.
Man Utd have targeted Andre Onana as a replacement for David De Gea in goal next season
Inter Milan have identified two possible replacements for if Andre Onana leaves the club
Mamardashvili played in all 38 games for Valencia last season and is the current Georgia number one. While Swiss stopper Sommer moved to Bayern Munich in December and played 25 times for the Germans last season.
There had been some interest in Empoli’s Guglielmo Vicario, but he has since agreed terms with Tottenham and looks set to move to North London, meaning their focus has switched.
Inter’s pursuits leave the door open for Man Utd to swoop for Onana, ahead of Chelsea who have reportedly ended their interest in the Cameroon star.
It’s a move that will have the backing of United boss Erik ten Hag, who worked with Onana at Ajax and is seen as the type of keeper who will fit with his style of playing out from the back.
Inter value their current number one at £50million, but United will need to make their budget go far as they also still weigh up another move for Chelsea’s Mason Mount, and continue their search for a striker.
David De Gea’s contract runs out next week and their is no sign of him inking a new deal
The club remain in the dark on De Gea’s future, when it appeared at one stage that the Spaniard was set to ink a new deal but on less than his current £375,000 a week contract.
There’s still a chance that De Gea does stay at Old Trafford, and they remain in dialogue with the player hoping a compromise can be reached.
United still also have Dean Henderson on their books, but the England goalie looks poised for a permanent move to Nottingham Forest having enjoyed a successful loan spell with the club last season.
