Man Utd given hope in talks to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund
Manchester United are prepared to spend £80 million on Jadon Sancho and are ‘increasingly confident’ of signing the Borussia Dortmund winger, according to reports.
United failed with their attempt to land Sancho last summer as Dortmund demanded a transfer fee well in excess of £100m for the England international.
But according to The Athletic, United have been ‘given encouragement’ that Dortmund will not demand the same fee as they were holding out for last year.
The report claims that United have indicated that they are willing to bid £80m for Sancho, a figure which is said to be ‘amenable’ to Dortmund.
However, the Bundesliga club are looking for an additional £20m in add-ons in order to reach a final agreement.
United are keen to quickly complete a deal for Sancho as they are aware the 21-year-old could increase his value if he impresses with England at the European Championship this summer.
Speaking last month, Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc revealed that the club have a ‘gentlemen’s agreement’ with Sancho which will allow him to leave this summer.
‘We already had a gentlemen’s agreement with Jadon last year that he can switch under certain conditions,’ Zorc told ARD.
‘He’s been with us for a couple of years. However, this agreement does not exist with Erling [Haaland].’
Meanwhile, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also keen to recruit a new central defender and a right-back to provide competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
