The Premier League side are exploring an ambitious move for the Brazil international as their search for midfield reinforcements goes on.

Casemiro has been a hugely influential figure at Real Madrid in recent years alongside Luka Modric and Toni Kroos, establishing himself as one of the best midfielders in the world.

After a Champions League and La Liga double last season, Casemiro is settled at Real with sources telling ESPN that United accept the move is ‘a long shot.’

But while the 30-year-old’s preference is to stay at the Bernabeu, the report adds a move to Manchester is a possibility with United considering a £50million offer.

Real have signed two of European football’s best young midfielders over the last 12 months, with Aurelien Tchouameni joining countryman Eduardo Camavinga in the Spanish capital this summer.

The two Frenchman started Real’s season opener against Almeria alongside Kroos at the weekend, with Casemiro among the subs.

United’s exhaustive search for new midfielders saw them turn to Adrien Rabiot earlier this month, agreeing a fee with Juventus thought to be worth an initial £15million.

United’s football director John Murtough flew to Turin last week in an attempt to close the deal, holding talks with the player’s agent and mother Veronique. But after lengthy negotiations, the move is now set to collapse with United unable to agree personal terms with the 27-year-old.

In addition to Casemiro, United are also considering a move for Brighton Moises Caicedo.

The 20-year-old, who has shone against the club in appearances at the end of last season and the start of the new campaign, has been offered to United by his representatives, according to reports.

Brighton however have no intention of selling the Ecuador international.

United have made three signings so far this summer in Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen.

In addition to more options in midfield, Erik ten Hag is also eager for the club to sign a versatile winger and a back-up striker.
