Man Utd given fresh Jadon Sancho hope by Dortmund chief in Erling Haaland claim
Manchester United have been given fresh hope they can sign Jadon Sancho after Borussia Dortmund revealed they have a 'gentleman's agreement' which means he can leave this summer.
But the club's sporting director Michael Zorc has warned that no such agreement exists with Erling Haaland, who is expected to be a target for United as well as Manchester City, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Barcelona.
United wanted Sancho in last summer's transfer window, but didn't meet Dortmund's £108million asking price.
This summer the focus appears to have shifted towards 37-goal hitman Haaland, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side needing a new centre-forward.
But Zorc's comments will have put them on alert over Sancho – with one report claiming they could land the 21-year-old winger for £87m.
"We already had a gentlemen’s agreement with Jadon last year that he can switch under certain conditions," Zorc told ARD . "He’s been with us for a couple of years. However, this agreement does not exist with Erling."
While Zorc's comments make it clear the Bundesliga club want to keep Haaland, they indicate that Sancho could be available – although only be for the right price.
However, that price could be less than last summer – with Sport1 claiming Dortmund would be prepared to accept less than €100m (£87m).
While a striker and a centre-half are the priorities for United in this summer's transfer window, there is still an opportunity for a player to nail down the right-wing position.

Mason Greenwood and Dan James have played there this season, while Marcus Rashford has also been shifted there from the opposite flank to accommodate Paul Pogba – who himself faces an uncertain future.
United signed Amad from Atalanta in the January transfer window and he could be a solution, although the 18-year-old is yet to make his Premier League debut.
Sancho was on form during Dortmund's 5-0 German Cup win over Holstein Kiel on Saturday, with the winger setting up two goals – including one for fellow England ace Jude Bellingham, who was a target for United before he joined the Bundesliga side.
