Man Utd fringe star blows chance to impress after Solskjaer selection gamble
Daniel James blew his chance to impress after being handed a big opportunity by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in Man Utd's 0-0 draw with Chelsea on Sunday.
The Welshman was making just his sixth Premier League start of the season at Stamford Bridge but failed to make the most of the chance afforded to him by Solskjaer.
He completed 20 passes at a success rate of 65% and was unable to use his lightening quick pace to spark United into life going forward either.
James has found minutes few and far between against the division's top sides and this was his first start against one of the league's big boys since a 0-0 draw with Chelsea in October.
With Solskjaer unable to rely on the 23-year-old in his team's biggest matches, United fans on Twitter were quick to condemn the ex-Swansea City star's performance.
One wrote: "Honestly Daniel James runs like a headless chicken. Please send that boy back to championship. He's not ready for the big leagues."
While another weighed in with: "Wish Daniel James was actually good at something other than being fast."
User Russell Palmer was more critical and urged Solskjaer to: "Get Daniel James off the pitch immediately!"
Others lambasted the Welshman's performance as "pathetic" and declared they were "going to lose whatever shred of sanity I have left" by watching James play.
Not all United fans were quite so critical, though, with some praising James for his incredible work-rate throughout the match.
United's 0-0 draw with Chelsea leaves them eight points adrift of rivals Manchester City at the top of the Premier League, but one point above Leicester who lost 3-1 against Arsenal on Sunday.
