Man Utd flop ‘will leave this summer’ – but offer below asking price is rejected

Manchester United are ready to let Fred leave the club this summer – but there is already an issue over their expected fee.

The Brazil international has only been able to show glimpses of his ability since his £52million move from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018, winning a single trophy in the form of the Carabao Cup under Erik ten Hag.

A year remains on the contract the 30-year-old signed on his arrival at Old Trafford following a club extension in 2022 – and they want a chunk of the fee they paid for him back this summer.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Galatasaray have made an official approach to United – but that the numbers involved are a long way from acceptability.

United have therefore rejected the bid, with interest remaining from Fulham as well as clubs in Saudi Arabia.

Fred made 56 appearances for United in all competitions last season, but the arrival of Mason Mount looks set to damage his chances of game time.

Talk regarding a potential transfer to Fulham began on the final day of the season when he was seen deep in conversation with Marco Silva outside Old Trafford.

Earlier this year, Ten Hag spoke of Fred as an example of how to make an impact after coming off the bench.

He said: "Every time when he’s coming on, he’s ready. He’s front foot and he brings the right quality to the game. That is great to have that as a team and as a manager."

United could be looking for a decent sum in order to fund their move for Andre Onana – who is set to become their first-choice goalkeeper.

The 27-year-old, who helped Inter Milan to the Champions League final last season, was the subject of a £38m bid that was rejected.

But Onana has told Inter he wants to join United this summer – and agreeing personal terms with United not set to be an issue.
