Man Utd fans would be stinking rich if they’d backed 12 home cup draws in a row
Manchester United fans could've made an absolute killing had they bet on the team to be drawn at home in 12 consecutive cup games – but then again if your aunt had balls, she'd be your uncle.
Erik ten Hag's side haven't exactly been blessed in the luck department this season – with off-field shenanigans, injury crises and the takeover malarkey lingering like bad smells for the past few months. But they've got nothing to complain about when it comes to FA Cup and Carabao Cup draws.
After progressing to the fourth round of the latter competition this week, United were drawn at home to Newcastle in a repeat of last season's final. Tough opponents aside, it was the 12th time they'd be drawn at home in domestic cup competitions in a run that stretches back to March 2021.

Excluding two-legged semi-finals and finals played at neutral venues, everyone one of United's cup games in the last two-and-half years have been played at Old Trafford. The incredible streak is an English football record, eclipsing the 11 home draws Shrewsbury Town racked up between 2017 and 2019.
The odds of drawing 12 home ties in a row are a staggering 4,096/1. To demonstrate just how bonkers that is, here are a few things that have a better chance of happening; Someone getting hit by a meteorite, an amateur astronomer discovering a new planet, a beach-goer unearthing a chest of pirate gold, and best of all, Micah Richards being the next James Bond.

The run of consecutive home ties obviously did United some good given that they reached the final of both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup last season, losing to Manchester City in the former and beating Newcastle in the latter. In that run, they also managed to avoid all of the Premier League 'big boys' like City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea.

Should they beat Newcastle in next month's Carabao Cup fourth round tie and get a 13th-consecutive home draw in the quarter-final, the run would carry odds of 8,190/1.
