Man Utd fans furious at Donny van de Beek tweet sent from official club account
Manchester United fans voiced their frustrations after the club wished Donny van de Beek a happy birthday on Twitter – insisting he should be playing more football.
Van de Beek has endured a miserable first season at Old Trafford after arriving from Ajax last summer, only being afforded two Premier League starts by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Dutch midfielder has failed to work his way into Solskjaer’s starting plans this term, which has come as a major concern to United supporters.
He did not even earn himself a start on his birthday, again being named as a substitute in their Premier League clash with Burnley on Sunday afternoon.
Before the game, United tweeted a picture of Van de Beek arriving for the game and wrote: “Say hello to the birthday boy!"
But the message didn’t go down well with the Red Devils faithful, who expressed their frustrations with his lack of game time under Solskjaer.
One put: “You serious? You're letting the birthday boy sit on the bench, with slim prospects of getting a kick. 'Happy' birthday indeed.”
Another wrote: “Surely you're taking the p***.”
A third commented: “For his birthday give him 20 mins instead of 5 mins please cheers.”
While one asked: “Is this some joke?”
Fortunately Van de Beek received some game time on his birthday, with Solskjaer bringing him off the bench late on in their 3-1 win over Burnley.

Mason Greenwood opened the scoring for United three minutes into the second half, but James Tarkowski levelled proceedings two minutes later.
Greenwood then restored the hosts’ lead with six minutes remaining, before Edinson Cavani sealed the victory deep into stoppage time.
Van de Beek was only given a 10-minute cameo off the bench, which was the 14th time he has been used as a substitute by Solskjaer in the Premier League this season.
There were high hopes for the Netherlands international when he joined last summer, having impressed in his five-year spell with Ajax.
But he is yet to convince Solskjaer that he should be included in his starting XI, meaning it has been a disappointing debut season on the whole.
