Man Utd fans fume at ‘terrible’ Ten Hag decision as Dutchman sells exciting star
Manchester United fans have expressed their frustration at the club’s decision to sell youngster Zidane Iqbal to Utrecht. The 20-year-old talent has been with the Red Devils since 2012 when he joined from local side Sale United but now Erik ten Hag and the Old Trafford hierarchy have reportedly decided to cash in, ending his 11-year stay with his boyhood club.
As one of very few British Asians playing top-level football in England, there were high hopes for Iqbal who was providing inspiration for the next generation.
Manchester-born Iqbal has already been capped three times by Iran, whom he qualifies for via his mother, after making his senior United debut in the Champions League against Young Boys in December 2021.
Yet sadly, further opportunities at senior level have failed to arrive at United and now Iqbal is set to kickstart his career in Holland.
The Athletic are reporting that United have all but finalised the sale of Iqbal to Utrecht for around £860,000 plus a significant sell-on clause.

Incredibly, United have now included a buy-back clause and that decision has only heightened the anger amongst United’s hopeful supporters, who wanted to see Iqbal make the grade at Old Trafford.
He has already undergone a medical with the Eredivisie side and is set to sign a long-term contract in Holland.
Iqbal’s exit does not sit right with the majority of United’s supporters on social media who have questioned why the Red Devils failed to include a buy-back clause at the very least.

@b_omzy added: “We’re selling the wrong players now. Everything about this club is a mess.”
A third fan raised concerns about United’s record in the transfer market, @Ciaran_IBN said: “Just shows. We are terrible in the market. Absolutely terrible.”
“We are not serious, why sell him instead of loaning this guy will be a star in the next couple of years,” added @Raynerklk.
United are set to oversee a number of sales this summer with Dean Henderson, Harry Maguire, Alex Telles, Scott McTominay, Anthony Martial, Anthony Elanga and Donny van de Beek among those that could depart.
The Red Devils are yet to make any progress on incomings either as talks continue with Chelsea over a move for Mason Mount.
Chelsea are prepared to try again with a new offer of £50m after seeing their first bid of £40m rejected.
United have so far been priced out moves for some of their other transfer targets including Harry Kane and Kim Min-jae, who looks set to join Bayern Munich.
