Man Utd fans fume as Jordan Ayew ‘chokes’ Fred but isn’t sent off like Casemiro

Manchester United fans were left fuming after Jordan Ayew put his hands around Fred's neck but wasn't sent off like Casemiro was for a similar offence.

Casemiro was given his marching orders after strangling Crystal Palace star Will Hughes in the Red Devils' 2-1 win over the Eagles. Casemiro was seen grabbing Hughes' throat with two hands leading to him being sent off, after a brawl erupted when Jeffrey Schlupp shoved Antony off the pitch.

But when Ayew did the same thing to United star Fred, referee Andre Marriner kept his cards in his pocket, to the dismay of United fans who slammed the official for double standards. And the supporters flocked to Twitter to share their grievances.

One fan fumed: "The club really needs to apply to overturn Casemiro red card, because it was really unfair decision by ref." Then another raged: "Putting your hands around the neck of anyone is silly and not tryina defend Casemiro but if you look at the way Ayew snapped his hand and choked Fred, the way Fred's neck snaps backwards, if Casemiro's was a red this is a double red."

A third user added: "At this point you really question the existence of #VAR if it does not help with the correct call." And a fourth fan steamed: "Disgraceful lack of consistency. You either send both off or neither off."

United boss Erik ten Hag shared the fury from fans regarding the incident. And after the match, he said without naming Ayew: "The player from Crystal Palace takes a big risk by this foul – that he get badly injured – by pushing him over the line.

"Everyone is reacting, Crystal Palace players and Man United players, and not only Casemiro. There was one of the players, he did even worse than Casemiro."

"You have to be consistent." United keeper David De Gea was also incensed by Casemiro's red card, and tweeted a gif of Jose Mourinho – with the Special One's famous quote: "If I speak, I am in big trouble!", to show his disdain.

However, the controversial decision couldn't prevent United from snagging three points and storming into third on the Premier League table. Goals from Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford ensured United kept the pressure on Man City who sit in second spot, just three points ahead of their bitter rivals.
