Man Utd fans drool over obscene Martinez goal in training after £55m transfer

Footage of Lisandro Martinez’s immense ball skills have resurfaced.

The incoming Manchester United defender is at Ajax’s training centre, and with the ball at his feet and cameras rolling, the defender decides to show off some trickery. He swiftly brings the ball up in the air with a quick double-tap, before knocking the ball over his head and spinning with the ball. As it’s about to land, he whacks it on the half volley over towards the goal.

Fans have had their say on social media about the audacious piece of skill. One said: “I can’t imagine Maguire actually doing this.” Another wrote: “Can’t wait for Harry Maguire to tackle him as Richarlison goes on to complete his hat trick.” A third wrote: “This guy might be the key to Manchester United success.” Someone else tweeted: “This is going to be extremely useful in games. Props.”

It has been confirmed that United have agreed to sign the Argentina central defender from Ajax in a deal worth up to £57million. Martinez will sign a five-year contract with the option of a further year, as Erik ten Hag continues his overhaul of the squad.

The defender featured 120 times for Ajax and has won seven caps at international level, with his debut coming in March 2019. His addition marks United's third summer signing after Tyrell Malacia joined from Feyenoord and Christian Eriksen signed a three-year deal after being a free agent.

After a below-par campaign last season, United are looking to improve and get back to winning ways. Luke Shaw recently spoke out about the difference their new Dutch manager is making to the side. “We can't be satisfied anymore with how the team had been going,” Shaw told United's official website.

“It's not where the club should be and we know the levels have had to take a massive step in terms of higher intensity and what we're supposed to be doing and I think from the start of the last two weeks, especially in training, it's definitely a big improvement.”
