Manchester United fans might be regretting seeing their club let youngster Amad leave on loan, after the talented youngster scored on his debut for Scottish champions Rangers.

The 19-year-old was brought straight into the side by Gers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst after receiving clearance to play against Ross County on Saturday.

And it was not long before Amad repaid the faith shown by his new boss, making sure his first touch was a decisive one after just five minutes of play at Victoria Park.

The visitors dominated the opening period of the match and worked the ball nicely down the left flank, with Borna Barisic finding Joe Aribo.

The attacker looked up for support in the box and rolled a brilliant low square ball across the penalty area to find Amad racing in at the far post. And from six yards out, the United starlet simply could not miss as he made an immediate impact on his debut.

The goal certainly made an impression on his United team-mate Marcus Rashford, who tweeted his support with some clapping-hand emojis after watching the goal.

One Twitter user, Nathan, hailed his fast start: “Some start from Amad, could turn out a super loan move. His pace will torture people in Scotland.”

A Rangers fan could not hide his delight, adding: “Wee Amad is making me happy!!!”

Another Twitter user named Harry suggested Amad can do better than the Scottish Premiership: “Yeah the Scottish league will be no match for Amad Diallo.”

And one United fan even suggested he could improve Cristiano Ronaldo’s displays: “Amad, Ronaldo, Sancho. Put Ronaldo next to wingers that look to create first and he’ll score bags of goals. Surround him next to Greenwood and Rashford and it’s a waste.”

It marked a fine moment for the teenager who has had to wait patiently for his chance to shine after becoming frustrated by his lack of first-team opportunities at Old Trafford.

So far, Amad has made just nine first-team appearances for United despite scoring a superb goal against Italian giants AC Milan in the Europa League.

Man United forked out an initial £19m fee to sign Amad from Atalanta in January last year, which could rise to £37m, with one eye on the future in securing the Ivorian youngster.

But the Red Devils managed to secure Jadon Sancho’s signature seven months later in a £73m deal, which has somewhat left Amad out of the picture at Old Trafford.

Amad has been thriving whilst getting minutes playing for the Under-23 side, but there was a general acceptance he needed senior first-team football to help fulfil his potential.

The winger was close to joining Feyenoord on loan on deadline day in the summer transfer window but a hamstring injury scuppered his chances of a move to the Netherlands.

Now recovered, he has headed to Ibrox for the rest of the season to link up with Van Bronckhorst’s side as they plan to chase down Celtic and successfully defend their league title.

“It is fantastic for me at this stage of my career to have the opportunity to come to such a big club that is challenging on a number of fronts and will give me some excellent opportunities to test myself in many environments,” the player said.

With more goals like that, there is no question the fans will start to warm to their new exciting signing Amad — it seems like they already have.
