Boxing star Tyson Fury has paid tribute to Jesse Lingard after the midfielder scored a late winner for Manchester United against West Ham on Sunday. Fury is a lifelong United supporter and has frequently attended games at Old Trafford.

The 33-year-old would have been watching on as the Red Devils made the visit to the London Stadium to take on the Hammers.

He would not have been please when Said Benrahma opened the scoring for the hosts after half-an-hour, as he saw a long-range strike deflect off Raphael Varane and in.

Cristiano Ronaldo quickly got the visitors back on level terms by tapping in when Lukas Fabianski spilled a shot five minutes after Benrahma’s effort.

But it proved hard going for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side thereafter, with West Ham holding firm heading into the final quarter of the game.

With time ticking down, Solskjaer began to make changes, with Jadon Sancho and Lingard both coming on with just over 15 minutes remaining.

It proved to be an inspired move from the United boss, with Lingard delivering a stunning winner with one minute of normal time left.

The midfielder picked up the ball on the edge of the West Ham box before cutting inside and firing past Fabianski.

Though West Ham were awarded a late penalty, Lingard’s strike proved to be the winner, claiming an important three points for his side.

The Red Devils are now third in the Premier League table and are still yet to taste defeat in the league.

Lingard spent the second-half of last season on loan at West Ham and hailed to home crowd for the reception they gave him despite his goal.

“That’s football. Thank you for the warm reception today #Jlingz,” he tweeted with pictures of his celebration.

Two-time world heavyweight champion Fury showed his delight with Lingard by quote tweeting the Englishman.

“‘it ain’t how hard you hit; it’s about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward.’ #Jlingz,” Fury tweeted.

“What a strike,” he added with the crown emoji and the fist bump emoji.

The first part of Fury’s tweet was in reference to Lingard’s struggles to force his way into Solskjaer’s plans at Old Trafford.

He was sent on loan to West Ham last season having failed to appear for United in the first half of the campaign.

Following a successful stay at the London Stadium, he has returned to United in impressive form, scoring two goals in his last two games.
