Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is facing the prospect of history repeating itself after reports emerged on Monday claiming the dressing room was starting to show unrest.

The Norwegian watched helplessly on the side-lines as Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side steamrolled United 5-0 at Old Trafford.

It was a demoralising day for the Red Devils, and with the humiliation marking United’s fifth defeat in nine games, Solskjaer is treading in perilous waters.

The defeat means United are now languishing in seventh position; trailing current table toppers Chelsea by eight points, and the top four places by three.

However, according to reports from the Guardian, a state of unrest and doubt has encompassed Solskjaer’s dressing room.

Coincidentally, an extract from Patrice Evra’s book detailing the unrest amongst United’s squad during David Moyes’ ill-fated reign as manager has emerged, and it sounds eerily similar to Solskjaer’s current situation.

“'Guys, we have to take some responsibility,' I said in training after weeks of this negativity,” Evra wrote in his book via the Times.

"We have to give the guy a chance.

“'How can you kiss his arse when he tried to sign someone in your position?’ one came back at me.

“‘He’s tried to sign every f***ing left back in the world.’”

Moyes was sacked barely ten months after taking over from Sir Alex Ferguson.

However, another extract, which details the United dressing room and Moyes’ reaction to a 4-1 drubbing by rivals Manchester City in 2013, is also similar as United had fallen out of the top four, just like they have this season.

“I’d gone to talk to David after our drubbing at City in September, where Sergio Agüero had run riot,” Evra wrote.

“I gave it to him straight, 'There’s something wrong here, boss. The dressing room is not happy and I’ve not seen that in my time here before.'

“David admitted that he wasn’t the best communicator with the players but told me that I should focus on my own game as I was playing well.”
