Man Utd enter ‘decisive’ Varane talks, ‘eye £45m Saul deal’, decide on James
Manchester United will be in shape to challenge for the Premier League title should they complete deals for a World Cup winning defender and La Liga winning midfielder this week.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already expressed his delight following the arrival of Jadon Sancho, with the Glazers willing to spend following months of discontent among supporters.
After their second-placed finish behind Manchester City last time out, United are desperate for a first league title since 2013, and could yet secure more notable arrivals.
Daily Star Sport have rounded up three of the latest talking points, with Raphael Varane on the brink of an Old Trafford arrival as talks with Real Madrid continue.
Man Utd enter 'decisive' Varane talks
RMC Sport have reported that 'United have started negotiations with Real Madrid for the transfer of Raphael Varane' and that they have been talking for several hours.
They add that this week will be 'decisive' in whether the move will go ahead, with United asking for the finer details over his potential transfer.
Varane is said to fancy a new challenge following 10 years in Spain, during which time he has won three league titles, the Copa del Rey and four Champions Leagues.
United 'eye £45m Saul deal'
Should Man Utd sell Paul Pogba and bring in Saul Niguez this summer? Give us your thoughts in the comments section
The Mail have reported that United will step up their pursuit of Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez this summer should they lose one of their experienced stars.
They add that Nemanja Matic is currently 'considering his options' which would leave the Red Devils short should Paul Pogba also leave Old Trafford.
The report says that Saul could be available for as little as £45m – due to the financial constraints on many La Liga clubs during the current transfer window.
Solskjaer decides on James' future
The Sun report that United are planning to keep hold of James for the upcoming campaign, and have an eye on the injury situation regarding Marcus Rashford.
The England forward looks set to miss the start of the new season, and the Red Devils could even give James a confidence boost by handing him a new contract of his own.
The Norwegian boss said of the speedster earlier this year: “He never disappeared. He has been working hard behind the scenes and always been available."
