Man Utd ‘discussing’ Mason Greenwood return as Jim Ratcliffe gets to work early
Man Utd are making huge changes ahead of Sir Jim Ratcliffe coming into the club | Football Digest
Sir Jim Ratcliffe will take control of several delicate matters as soon as his £1.3billion deal for a 25 per cent stake in Manchester United is ratified. Mason Greenwood is the subject of one early decision United’s new board will face as he continues his return to football on loan at Getafe.
Greenwood hasn’t played for United since January 2022 when he was arrested and later charged with attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour, all of which he denied.
In February this year, following the withdrawal of key witnesses, the UK’s Crown Prosecution Service announced it had discontinued the charges.
The 22-year-old forward was reportedly set for a reintegration into Erik ten Hag’s squad in the summer before chief executive Richard Arnold performed a U-turn due to internal and external backlash.
But Arnold has since left his role at Old Trafford in anticipation of Sir Jim’s sporting overhaul, with INEOS figure Jean-Claude Blanc widely expected to replace him as CEO.
That won’t be the only change in the hierarchy as the Glazer family prepares to transfer control over United’s football operations to Sir Jim and INEOS.
It could offer Greenwood a reprieve at Old Trafford based on how determined Sir Jim is to do things his way at the club he’s supported since childhood.

And the 71-year-old is already weighing up how to handle Greenwood’s future before he officially starts work in his hometown of Manchester.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Sir Jim is already holding discussions over the former United No 11’s situation.
However, the INEOS founder has yet to make a decision and will hold off forming a plan until next year.
United reportedly want to allow Greenwood to focus on his football in Spain and then base their stance about his Old Trafford future on how he performs for Getafe.

Romano adds that crucial talks over Greenwood’s next steps will likely take place near the end of the season between March and May.
It’s claimed that different factors will be considered while United’s new-look recruitment team – expected to be in place before the summer transfer window – works together to develop the squad.
Greenwood has registered five goal contributions in his last five appearances for Getafe, scoring three times and assisting twice.
He has four goals and three assists in 12 outings for the La Liga outfit and is under contract at United until 2025, making next summer a critical stage in addressing his future.
