Manchester United have been dealt a blow after Edinson Cavani reportedly decided to leave in the summer transfer window. The 34-year-old striker has the option of another year in his United contract but will join Boca Juniors at the end of the season, according to claims from South America.
Cavani has scored seven goals and posted two assists so far for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, with his physical presence adding a new dimension to the Red Devils’ attack.
The likes of Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood have also benefited from the former PSG star’s experience, with United having been the Premier League’s top scoring side until they were overtaken by Manchester City recently.
Cavani’s season has been disrupted by injuries and suspension, but hopes were high he would stay for another season.
However, he is reportedly set to join Boca Juniors in the summer, following talks between the Buenos Aires side, his brother, and agent Walter Guglielmone.

That’s according to Argentine outlet Olé, cited by Sport Witness.
The publication quotes a source saying: “In July he’s at Boca, that’s the idea.
“Unless there’s a mistake, that’s it. He’s decided to return now. And he has decided that it’s Boca.”
Olé claims Cavani’s entourage believe he would move as a free agent, with the renewal clause in his contract not automatic.
The publication says the striker will take a pay cut to join Boca Juniors, but wants a three-year contract.
The same outlet recently claimed that Cavani had previously promised Boca Juniors president Juan Roman Riquelme he would sign for the side.
Cavani missed United’s win over City on Sunday which narrowed the gap between first and second place to 11 points.
Anthony Martial led the line in his absence, and was almost on the scoresheet when he was denied by Ederson in the second half.
Martial is another player who has been linked with a move away from United amid inconsistent form and increased competition this season.
But Solskjaer said the French striker “rediscovered himself” in the victory.
“We went back to be a little bit what we wanted to be and that’s being direct,” said the manager. “That was the Anthony Martial of old.
“Until two hours before warm-up I wasn’t sure if he’d play. Today he rediscovered himself. He was really strong on the ball and very positive.”
