Man Utd could seal £50m transfer they were first interested in five years ago
Manchester United have reportedly renewed their interest in Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
The Red Devils are still looking to strengthen in the market, particularly after their Premier League campaign began with a chastening 2-1 home loss to Brighton and Hove Albion. A new midfielder appears to be Erik ten Hag’s main priority, yet the club’s endless pursuit of Barcelona ace Frenkie de Jong continues to hit one stumbling block after another.
And the purported monitoring of Milinkovic-Savic’s situation could be a sign that they are now considering alternative targets to Ten Hag’s former player. While they have not pursued him like they have de Jong, United have been linked with the Serbian ever since Jose Mourinho was in the Old Trafford dugout.

And reports from the Telegraph understand United are considering a move for Milinkovic-Savic, who contributed 11 Serie A goals and 11 assists in 37 appearances last season. However, he will not come cheaply, as it would purportedly require a fee of around £50million to convince the Italian giants to part with him.
Ten Hag’s desire for a new midfielder has been apparent ever since he took up the United reins. Before his side’s recent loss to Graham Potter’s side, the Dutchman told reporters, "We want Frenkie? It's about the right players.”
“At this moment, we have players in that position who perform really well. It would be a good situation [to sign more players].

“But I am happy with the current squad. We need players. You don't need any player; you need the right player."
United also appear to be on the brink of signing Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot. The Reds are believed to have agreed a £15m deal in principle with Massimiliano Allegri’s side to sign the Frenchman
However, personal terms are still being thrashed out with his mother and agent Veronique Rabiot reportedly striking a hard bargain for the 27-year-old.
