Barcelona are ready to push hard for Erling Haaland in the upcoming summer transfer window while Manchester United are said to have submitted a £68.5million bid to sign Marcos Llorente from Atletico Madrid. Express Sport rounds up all the latest transfer rumours and gossip coming out of Old Trafford.
Barcelona Haaland threat
Barcelona are said to be chasing three low-cost deals to strengthen their squad in order to focus all their funds on trying to sign Erling Haaland, increasing the competition Manchester United face to sign the striker.
The Borussia Dortmund hitman, who has 49 goals in as many games for the German giants since January 2020, is wanted by United, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City.
And while Barca are struggling financially, they are set to sign Liverpool’s Gini Wijnaldum, ex-United winger Memphis Depay – currently at Lyon – and Man City’s Eric Garcia all on free transfers.
The trio are all out of contract at their current clubs at the end of the season and Barca will use the low-cost deals to focus on funnelling their finances into a concerted pursuit of Haaland.
Spanish outlet Sport said this week that Barca will go all out for the Norway striker, who is said to be valued at £154m by Dortmund.
Philippe Coutinho and Antoine Griezmann are among the players it has been suggested Ronald Koeman could sell to free up funds.
£68.5m Atletico Madrid bid
Manchester United have reportedly an offer of €80million (£68.5m) for Atletico Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente.
The La Liga giants are said to be tempted to sell the midfielder, despite his importance as a regular starter for Diego Simeone.
Spanish outlet AS say that Llorente is high up on United’s list of targets and that a huge bid has been submitted.
Llorente is said to be happy in the Spanish capital and would prefer to stay at the Wanda Metropolitano.
But United would look to compensate the Spain international, 26, by doubling his current wages.
Llorente was also a target for United in January 2020 but didn’t want to move, having only joined Atletico from Real Madrid in the summer of 2019.
Amad set Cristiano Ronaldo target
Giovanni Galli, the man who was responsible for discovering Amad for Atalanta, believes the talented teenager can follow in Cristiano Ronaldo’s footsteps by winning the Ballon d’Or as a United player.

Amad joined United for £37million and has since made four appearances in the FA Cup and Europa League, scoring against AC Milan while thriving at under-23 level with three goals and three assists in just two matches.
“Amad is unique but he must make himself stronger,” Galli told Goal of the 18-year-old attacker.
“I think next year he will have more chances to stand out in the first team. He is a very good player, but he has to remember that talent alone is not enough.
“He has to work hard and become a footballer who plays for and with the team. At the same time, he must make sure he does not lose his speed, which is a quality that distinguishes him from others.”
Galli added: “In short, I think he has all the qualities to be a candidate for the Ballon d’Or in the next five years.”
