Manchester United could see their chances of signing Napoli winger Hirving Lozano scuppered if Liverpool move for Jeremy Doku. A realistic sequence of events would see the complex transfer domino effect fall against the Red Devils, leaving Erik ten Hag to pursue other options.
United are thought to be keen on Mexican international Lozano, who has played for Napoli since 2019. Everton are also reported to be in the running and the player’s agent, Alessandro Monfrecola, has hinted that his time in Italy could soon be up.
That would depend on Napoli giving the green light to his departure, however, with the 27-year-old still an important player despite his numbers tailing off. Lozano notched 10 goal contributions in Serie A last season and he has appeared in seven of Gli Azzurri’s eight league games this term.
If he was to leave, reports in Italy state that Napoli would be inclined to make a move for Rennes youngster Jeremy Doku as his replacement.

Letting a key player like Lozano go would require some form of contingency plan and bringing in a potential star for the future like Doku would likely keep fans sweet. There is a hitch, however, as Liverpool are believed to be long-term admirers of the 20-year-old, while a move could turn the whole situation on its head.
According to Calciomercato, the Reds are poised to strike for Doku in the near future with Jurgen Klopp’s interest still as serious as ever. The winger is already into his third season of regular top-flight football and, despite his young age, he has 10 senior Belgium caps on his CV.

Naturally, Liverpool snapping up Napoli’s ideal Lozano replacement in Doku would decrease the Italian side’s chances of letting the Mexican leave in the first place. United would therefore be left stranded if Napoli put the brakes on any potential deal with Ten Hag forced to search elsewhere.
The Red Devils’ list of back-up options is sure to be long, given the amount of high-profile names they were linked with over the summer. The likes of Marco Asensio, Yannick Carrasco and Cody Gakpo were all rumoured to have admirers at Old Trafford and interest could be reignited if a prospective approach for Lozano at the end of the campaign fails to bear fruit.
Although Ten Hag is seemingly keen to bring in more wide options, it’s not long since United splashed out £84million to bring in tricky winger Antony from Ajax. The Brazilian has scored twice in five matches so far and he could be called on to start against Everton on Sunday.
All eyes will be on United’s front-line with Cristiano Ronaldo expected to be left out again, following a frustrating 90 minutes against Omonia Nicosia in midweek. By contrast, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial both looked sharp, capping off their performances with three goals between them.
