Man Utd ‘confident’ of Rasmus Hojlund transfer as PSG submit £43m bid for star

Ten Hag laments Man Utd finishing in Real Madrid defeat

Manchester United are confident of signing Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund before the start of the season, despite PSG’s active pursuit, according to reports. The Ligue 1 champions have launched a rival bid for Hojlund as Erik ten Hag scrambles to recruit much-needed attacking firepower.

According to The Athletic, PSG have submitted an offer worth £43million for the Denmark international.

On Wednesday, United verbally bid £43m plus £8m in add-ons, a package likely more attractive for the Serie A outfit.

The report claims PSG will walk away from the negotiation table if Atalanta rebuff their opening bid amid Hojlund’s desire to leave this summer.

And the Mirror report that United remain confident that he will land at Old Trafford rather than the Parc des Princes in the coming weeks.

It’s alleged that the Red Devils believe a compromise fee can be agreed after Atalanta initially demanded £80m, while they value the 20-year-old between £50m and £60m.

Amad’s £37m arrival in 2021 has helped strengthen the relationship between the two clubs.

And there is said to be confidence among United figures that Ten Hag will have Hojlund to pick from in the Premier League opener against Wolves on August 14.

Hojlund is widely considered one of Europe’s most exciting young forwards, scoring 16 goals in 42 appearances in a breakthrough 2022/23 season at Atalanta.

But the Mirror add that United accept the starlet may need time to adjust to the pace and physicality of the Premier League.

At the same time, Ten Hag has been backed to turn Hojlund into a world-class striker after helping Marcus Rashford to a career-best 30-goal season in his first year at the helm.

PSG’s interest won’t overly faze United, with reports claiming Hojlund would prioritise a move to M16 over Paris if both options were on the table.

However, it could cause the decision-makers to step on the accelerator in talks with Atalanta to avoid missing out on Ten Hag’s top striker target after it became clear that Harry Kane was unattainable.

The ball is firmly in Atalanta’s court, and whether United shares PSG’s take-it-or-leave-it stance remains to be seen.
