Manchester United executives are said to be uninterested in signing Neymar despite Sheikh Jassim reportedly profiling him as one of his dream targets. The board are concerned that they would have another Cristiano Ronaldo situation on their hands if they were to make a move for the 31-year-old, who is set to depart Paris Saint Germain in the summer.
French newspaper L’Équipe reported earlier this week that United have started talks to sign Neymar. However, ESPN Deportes claim that his chances of signing for the Red Devils are slim.
According to the Spanish outlet, United aren’t keen on the idea of bringing in another superstar with high wage demands, due to fears that it may disrupt the harmony within the squad, as Ronaldo did before his eventual departure to Al-Nassr in January.
It is instead understood that Chelsea are the frontrunners to sign Neymar. In February, Chelsea owner Todd Boehly and PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi had a meeting in Paris and are said to have discussed Neymar’s future.
Neymar has been plagued by injuries since arriving at PSG back in 2017 and the club is open to letting him go if the right offer emerges. His current deal expires in 2025 and is worth over £70m a year.
PSG fans have turned against the player this season and are demanding that he leaves the club with 50 ultras protesting outside of his house earlier this month after PSG’s 3-1 loss to Lorient in Ligue 1.

Neymar no longer feels welcome at the club and is expected to be on his way out of Le Parc Des Princes in the summer. If Chelsea do end up signing the five-time Ligue 1 winner then he will be reunited with Mauricio Pochettino who was always a great admirer of the player during their time together at PSG.
Speaking back in 2021, the Argentine said of Neymar: “It’s so easy with Neymar because you don’t need to do too much. From day one, he’s been very open to work. He’s very humble, he listens and always accepts all the instructions in a very good way. Brazilian players have something special inside.
“They love to play football because it’s like a dance. They play like they are dancing. Ronaldinho was my teammate when I was a PSG player and now Neymar. They need to feel good, to feel happy to perform in the best way.”
