Manchester United transfer officials share the same belief in their hopes of signing Eduardo Camavinga or Saul Niguez, according to reports. The Red Devils have already splashed out on two marquee signings this summer with Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane joining.
Tom Heaton has also signed as the club’s third-choice goalkeeper to give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer more squad depth.
Following Varane’s arrival from Real Madrid, United have switched their attentions to other transfer targets.
Signing a central midfielder appears to be a top priority with Nemanja Matic currently the only other option to play in a defensive role along with Fred and Scott McTominay.
Solskjaer can be flexible with Donny van de Beek and Paul Pogba, but both are better utilised further up the pitch.

Fred and McTominay have been the preferred pairing through the opening two games of the season, playing in behind Bruno Fernandes with Pogba out wide.
But the availability of both Saul and Camavinga has alerted United officials to a possible move late in the window.
Atletico Madrid are prepared to sell Saul if a suitable offer comes in while Rennes don’t want to lose Camavinga for free when his contract expires next year.
United are leading contenders for both players, but ESPN suggest they may miss out this summer.
DON’T MISS
It is claimed that signing a midfielder is more of a priority for United than bringing in cover at right-back for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
However, the report adds that United must raise funds with player sales before moving for either Saul or Camavinga.
And United bosses are said to be lacking in confidence they will be able to offload anyone in time.
Jesse Lingard appears the most likely to leave with West Ham maintaining their interest in the midfielder.
United have already rejected an approach from West Ham with Solskjaer recently suggesting the England international is part of his plans for the season.
“I think Jesse’s first priority is to get into our team,” Solskjaer said.
“I think whenever your employer is Man United, I think that’s your first priority and always is.
“I think we, together, can have great moments. Of course, as a manager, with players in a squad like I’ve got now, it’s difficult. It’s difficult to say that ‘this weekend you’re not playing’.
“Of course, I have to leave players out, never mind from the starting XI but from the squad. But they all have to remember and know they’re going to have to play a part if we’re going to be successful.
“Jesse is back to his fitness, he played really well in the behind-closed-doors game on Tuesday and he’s come back bubbly and in good shape. He’s got a big part to play.”
