Man Utd boss Ten Hag at loggerheads despite Sheikh Jassim ‘agreement’
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag reviews Bournemouth game
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has objected to a policy of signing big names despite Sheikh Jassim agreeing with the Glazers to sanction a huge spend this summer, reports say. The Dutchman wants his main targets to arrive by the time pre-season kicks off. But with the Red Devils poised to go down the Galactico route, it’ll be interesting to see what happens.
According to El Pais, the Glazers are ready to splash the cash this summer with the Red Devils poised to return to the Champions League following their absence from the competition this season.
And it’s claimed Sheikh Jassim is on board with their transfer plans, having ‘agreed’ on what the policy should be as he battles to complete a takeover.
Ten Hag, however, is wary.
The United boss apparently wants his main targets signed by the time the club jet off for their pre-season tour of the United States in July.
But he is concerned that may not happen if United go for big, established names.

As a result, Ten Hag has informed the board he knows of players who could be signed in a straightforward manner – instead of having to be patient and wait.
Yet Sheikh Jassim and the Glazers are undeterred as the takeover situation continues to play out behind the scenes.
The Glazers are making plans regardless of what happens, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe another candidate interested in purchasing the club this summer.
And it appears they’re in dialogue with Sheikh Jassim over potential new signings so that any potential takeover can go as smoothly as possible.
There’s still every chance the Qatari figure will buy United, despite being reluctant to pay the Glazers’ huge £6billion asking price.

And what ultimately happens is something only time will tell.
United have made good progress under Ten Hag this season and are set to return to the Champions League, with a top four finish virtually sealed.
Yet they know they need new reinforcements if they’re to challenge the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal for the Premier League title next season.
In previous occasions when they’ve finished in the top four in the years since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013, the club have been willing to back their manager.
Louis van Gaal was gifted deals for the likes of Morgan Schneiderlin, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Memphis Depay back in 2015.

Two years later, after winning an EFL Cup and Europa League double, Jose Mourinho brought in names such as Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic and Victor Lindelof.
In 2020, United landed Edinson Cavani on a free – with Donny van de Beek, Facundo Pellistri and Alex Telles also touching down.
And, 12 months later, Galacticos such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane were all brought in.
Meanwhile, speaking recently, Ten Hag revealed targets were ‘really keen’ to move to Old Trafford this summer.
“I see a big difference in comparison with last year,” stated the 53-year-old.
“There were a lot of reservations last year when I spoke with players and now many players see the project, what’s going on, the dynamic and the ambition in this project, the quality especially.
“They are really keen to come, I’ve noticed that… This year, many quality players really want to come.”
He added: “Expectations are higher but also we have to acknowledge where we were last season and the last seasons.
“We have to rebuild and reconstruct. We are in that process and in the right direction.
“You can see that in the way we play, we are more proactive. You can see it in how we won already one trophy, we are in another final.
“I think we are in the right direction and we’re also in the top four at the moment and we have to stay there.
“Of course, we have to get better every day, we have to work and improve. That is the demand on everyone at this club, the staff and the players especially, but also anyone else.”
