Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been told his “job is on the line” by former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell. The United manager has come under fire for a turbulent start to the new season.
Loses to Young Boys, West Ham and Aston Villa, alongside a draw against Everton, has mounted pressure on Solskjaer.
The Red Devils have a gruelling fixture list coming up including ties against Liverpool, Tottenham, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal in their next seven domestic matches.
Solskjaer was heavily backed in the summer with Cristiano Ronaldo the star attraction returning to Old Trafford.
Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane were also bought to inject that added quality to challenge for the Premier League title.
However, Solskjaer has struggled to get his side clicking so Campbell thinks United chiefs could soon pull the trigger.
“Man Utd’s squad is loaded,” Campbell told Football Insider.
“The fact of the matter is, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been backed to a serious extent. I mean to bring in Varane, Sancho and Ronaldo, wow. He has got to deliver now.
“There is not going to be time for these players to settle in. There can be none of that.
“Man United came second last season and have added three difference makers to that squad. You have got to make it work if you are Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. It is that simple.
“Ole has been there a little while now and he has not got over the line with silverware. He has to win something this season and really it should be the league.
“There is a lot of pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. His job is on the line.”
Meanwhile, ex-United defender Gary Neville thinks his former team-mate will be given time to embed his new stars.
“I know he has spent a lot of money but so did Van Gaal and Mourinho and I didn’t like the teams that they produced,” he said. “I didn’t like the players they brought in.
“Yes, we need to get a better performance out of them but there is absolutely no doubt whatsoever that we need a better performance than we’re currently getting.
“They do play in moments and that’s why these two teams that I’m watching today (Liverpool and Man City) are far better.
“However, he has got to win something this season or I think he will come under big pressure.
“Let’s at least keep calm until the end of the season. There is no one going anywhere until the end of the season.
“I think we have to make sure we allow this team to develop.
“Varane has just come in, Sacho has come in, Ronaldo has come in. Give them a few months to settle.”
