Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will address his Manchester United players today as part of a ‘detailed inquest’ following Sunday’s embarrassing loss at the hands of Liverpool, according to reports. The Red Devils manager, who will reportedly avoid the sack in spite of the weekend’s crushing defeat, is currently under significant pressure to rescue the Old Trafford club’s dire form.
United are enduring a torrid run of just two wins from their last seven outings in all competitions, with Sunday’s humiliating result doing little to ease the growing tension behind closed doors.
Solskjaer’s side were firmly second-best from the very first whistle against Liverpool, with the Merseyside outfit utterly dominant as they worked to put their bitter rivals to the sword on their own patch.
Early goals from Naby Keita and Diogo Jota gave the Reds a quick-fire advantage before Mohamed Salah’s hat-trick condemned United to arguably their worst defeat in recent memory.
Club chiefs reportedly considered the possibility of replacing Solskjaer with a new manager in the wake of Sunday’s defeat, with Antonio Conte understood to be keen on the role.
However, it seems as though United’s current boss will live to fight another day and is expected to remain in charge for Saturday’s clash with Tottenham.

He will now be tasked with going over the final details of his side’s performance against Liverpool as the dust settles and the inquest begins over how to move forward.
Solskjaer is preparing to address his players, who were kept inside Old Trafford for two hours following Sunday’s match, at Carrington on Tuesday, according to The Athletic.
The report claims that plenty of ‘stark assessments’ will be delivered, with a number of changes expected to be made for the visit of Tottenham.
United’s players were given a day off to recover from the defeat to Liverpool on Monday, but Solskjaer reported for duty in order to review the match in full and draw up a plan of action as he seeks a positive response.
It remains to be seen whether he will be able to rally his troops ahead of their upcoming clash with Spurs, who were beaten by cross-city rivals West Ham United earlier on Sunday.
Solskjaer only signed a new long-term contract at United back in July but will likely need to prove his worth over the coming weeks to stand any chance of honouring the deal, which runs until the summer of 2024, in its entirety.
Former Red Devils defender Gary Neville recently suggested that Solskjaer will be given until the end of the season to assert himself as the right man for the job despite Sunday’s result.
However, the eight-time Premier League winner also insisted that United’s performance was completely unacceptable and highlighted the need for a quick-fire turnaround.

“I think the club will hold their nerve,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“I don’t think they’ve planned for a new manager in this season, I think they’ll get to the end of the season. I think they’ll sit with Ole until the end of the season.
“I know there’ll be a massive outcry from fans, from the media, from everybody that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should be sacked and I can understand that after that game, 5-0.
“It’s nowhere near good enough, that was a monstrously bad day, it takes some recovery.”
