Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has reacted to Cristiano Ronaldo’s outburst after coming off against Brentford on Wednesday. Ronaldo threw a tantrum after Rangnick pulled him off in the 71st minute and was visibly furious with the decision after sitting on the stairs of the hosts’ dugout.

Speaking after full-time, Rangnick made it clear he understood Ronaldo’s frustrations and explained his decision to withdraw him from the game.

He told BT Sport: “It’s normal. Ronaldo is a striker, and he wants to score goals. He’s just come back from injury.

Ronaldo had missed United’s previous two games against Aston Villa – the 1-0 win at Old Trafford in the FA Cup Third Round and Saturday’s 2-2 league draw at Villa Park.

And Rangnick suggested he has learned from mistakes at the weekend and changed his system to secure the lead this time around.

“We were 2-0 up the same result as at Villa Park, and I wanted us to be more solid this time,” he added.
