Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has snubbed the chance to offer an update on Raphael Varane.
The Red Devils transfer target appears destined to leave Real Madrid this summer, with Solskjaer's men at the front of the queue.
Reports suggest a deal for the Frenchman is all-but done, despite apparent 11th-hour interest from Chelsea.
But Solskjaer refused to break his own rule of never talking about players unless they are already part of his squad.
"Varane? I only speak about players when we sign them," he responded, when quizzed about Varane after United's 2-1 friendly win over Derby.
Varane has also stayed quiet on a potential move as he enjoys a post-Euro 2020 break.
The defender uploaded a picture on Thursday with his stunning wife, enjoying a beautiful beachfront dinner with his other half.
United fans flocked to the post straightaway, urging Varane to complete his move away from Real Madrid.
As for United, Solskjaer is hoping Sunday's result is a catalyst for a good pre-season.
The Norwegian gave a host of youngsters game time in the narrow victory, including Uruguayan sensation.
But Solskjaer has hinted the inexperienced players in his squad may struggle for minutes as the season draws closer.
"There'll be more [minutes] for some of the most experienced ones, of course," he said.
"There'll probably be less and less for the kids – that's just the way it goes. We have to start better than last season. We didn't get off to a decent start at all and now it's first one under the belt.
"I think the Premier League is more competitive [than it used to be]. We had [when I was a player] maybe one competitor every season so, of course, the first six or seven games, it's very important to stay there. You don't win the league in the first six or seven games, but you can lose the chance of winning the league."
