Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag wants Premier League rule changed after Forest win

Football Digest: Analysing Man Utd's failed recruitment

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has called for the Premier League to change their rules surrounding timewasting, after slamming Nottingham Forest’s stars for delaying play during Saturday’s victory. Steve Cooper’s side took a 2-0 lead within four minutes, but goals from Christian Eriksen, Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes sealed the comeback.

Though United’s boss was not totally happy with the opposition’s conduct. “The rule is not right,” Ten Hag said when asked about Forest timewasting at Old Trafford. “The team was delaying from the start and they were getting rewarded for it.”

Ten Hag was pleased with his side’s character to overcome a two-goal deficit, though admitted that he was not impressed with the manner of goals that United conceded. “Horror start, but the character of the team was brilliant,” he added.

“We stayed so calm and so composed. We stuck to our belief, stuck to our plan, played some good football and scored three good goals. It was a great comeback. With all respect to Forest, we can’t allow them [those goals]. They were easy give-aways. It’s crazy, but sometimes games go like this. As I said, we stayed calm.”

“It’s a marker, absolutely. We’ve seen this team can bounce back. If you have such a start, you need to get over it. It’s not easy, but compliments to the team. We have the personality. In certain moments we can definitely improve, but in general this team has the character to bounce back all the time.”
