Man Utd blow as ‘three-month takeover timeline’ given to Jassim and Ratcliffe
Manchester United’s long takeover saga will not be over any time soon with reports claiming there could be another ’12 weeks’ after an agreement is made before everything is finalised. The Glazers began the process of looking at financial options, be it a full sale or new investment, began back in November last year.
It soon became apparent that a full sale was a possibility with both Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani and Sir Jim Ratcliffe emerging as the frontrunners. But there’s been frustration since the pair lodged their first bids back in February with more offers put on the table in the ensuing months.
The Glazers are said to be standing firm on their £6billion asking price, which neither Ratcliffe or Sheikh Jassim are understood to have matched as of yet. Further frustration has been aimed at the Glazers as it’s still unclear what they actually want from the negotiations with some suggestions they could remain in charge still while bringing in minority shareholders.
There was seemingly some progress this week when reports in Qatar appeared to claim Sheikh Jassim had been ‘successful’ in his bid to buy United. But the same publication soon denied the claims, leading to further confusion.
All the noise that has come out of the takeover talks does appear to point towards a conclusion being reached soon. However, the Times claim United’s ownership situation will not be resolved before the start of next season.
