Manchester United are closing in on their fourth summer signing with Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez reportedly set for a loan deal.
Having already made big-money moves in the transfer market, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now close to adding his desired deep-lying playmaker which will enable the Norwegian boss to switch to a 4-3-3 formation.
The United manager is keen on changing the system to allow Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba to roam further up the field with the aim of creating more chances for the forward line.
But Solskjaer remains unmoved on Scott McTominay, Nemanja Matic and Fred; none of them are trusted to play the holding role on their own.
Spanish outlet AS report, via sportwitness, that a transfer is 'imminent' with Man Utd leading Chelsea in the race to sign the 26-year-old.
Saul Niguez is also a target for the Blues but boss Thomas Tuchel has been told he needs to sell three midfielders before the Chelsea board will consider a loan move for the Spaniard.
Tuchel already has a stacked midfield with Ngolo Kante, Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic, Mason Mount and Kai Havertz all on the books at Stamford Bridge.

Ross Barkley, Danny Drinkwater and Tiemoue Bakayoko are the players being pushed towards the exit door.
But United are hopeful they have already won the race; Saul Niguez would be assured game time at Old Trafford.
A loan move would be ideal for Solksjaer who is strapped for cash following the arrivals of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane for a combined total of over £100 million.
Tom Heaton has also joined the squad upon release from Aston Villa.
