Manchester United and Newcastle fans will be allowed to stand at the Carabao Cup final at Wembley.

For the first time in 35 years, EFL bosses have confirmed that Wembley will have safe standing for fans. And both United and Magpies fans will be allocated 867 tickets each for the finale.

All tickets on sale will be sold by both sides in line with the cup final ticketing policy. The reintroduction of safe standing comes after it was trialled at length during Premier League and EFL games. And supporters who attend the ensuing FA Cup semi-final and final are poised to be allowed to stand too.

Standing at matches and terraces was removed from top-flight English football following the tragic Hillsborough disaster in 1989 which culminated in the deaths of 97 people.

However, the return of safe standing with features such as a seat in each space, along with a rail on each row have been advocated throughout the years as licensing authorities reckon stadiums are safer with those designs. And the Sports Ground Safety Authority think the new standing rules will help improve security and identify troublemakers amid a rise in crowd trouble.

Plus the rails will help provide stability for fans when celebrating the authority believes. The new standing measures also prevent fans from falling forward during matches, and supporters will have to remain seated in the areas where there are no special standing areas.

Tottenham added the safe standing rails to their £1billion stadium, and Manchester United. Manchester City, and Cardiff City have all taken part in trials of the feature.

Bundesliga sides have already installed the safe standing areas in stadiums, while English football have been more apprehensive to do so due to the Hillsborough tragedy. But Liverpool have added the rails to their stadium. although they're yet to apply for a licence.

The government, English football supporter groups, and licensing authorities all agree that safe standing should be allowed back in grounds across the country. And The Mirror revealed last July that the measures would be reintroduced at Wembley this season.
